Problem with EP developer tools in Visual Studio

I've installed the Enterprise Portal developer tools on a machine with Visual Studio 2008 SP1. The problem I'm having is that the Toolbox does not contain any of the Dynamics AX controls. If I "Show All" there still is no group of Dynamics AX controls. If I try to add them manually, there are no options for AX controls. I did find one post that sounded relevant. http://fredshen.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!B32E9346DBBAE4E3!273.entry It suggested reseting the toolbox and deleting any .tbd files. However, following these instructions don't work for me. In the 'Choose Toolbox Items' dialog, I don't have any Ax controls to choose. Can anyone suggest where to look next?

Are you using the user account who installed the Visual Studio 2008?

No I'm not. VS was installed by the Administrator I believe, while I'm running under a domain account.

I think you need to check if the VS template has been deployed to your account. In Windows 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\Users\Application Data\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectTemplatesCache\Visual Web Developer\CSharp C:\Documents and Settings\Users\Application Data\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ItemTemplatesCache\Visual Web Developer\CSharp If there is no files in those two folder, you need to copy those folder and files from the account who installed the VS 2008.

I'm looking for AxWebProject.zip in ProjectTemplate and AxWebpartPage.zip and AxWebUserControl.zip in ItemTemplate? Those exist and I am able to create these projects and items. I just don't have the toolbox items. I'm on Windows 7 so I don't know for sure if I'm looking in the right place, but I'm looking at: C:\Users\[useraccount]\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\ItemTemplates\Visual Web Developer\CSharp C:\Users\[useraccount]\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Templates\ProjectTemplates\Visual Web Developer\CSharp I also have files here: C:\Users\[useraccount]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ProjectTemplatesCache\Visual Web Developer\CSharp C:\Users\[useraccount]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\VisualStudio\9.0\ItemTemplatesCache\Visual Web Developer\CSharp

    - Check that the .NET Framework is properly installed. You could use the script at .NET Framework 3.5 Installation validation tool - Try restoring the IDE's default settings: from the folder where VS 2008 is installed (eg. %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\IDE), run devenv.exe /ResetSettings. You can also specify a VSSettings file to restore settings from. - To clears all SkipLoading tags added to VSPackages, run devenv.exe /ResetSkipPkgs. - Launches the IDE in safe mode loading minimal windows: devenv.exe /SafeMode.

I appreciate your help. I tried your suggestions this morning and didn't find a solution. So I did a clean build of Windows 7 with the following: SQL 2008 Express x64 w/ SP1 SQL 2008 Enterprise Client Tools SQL 2008 SP1 Visual Studio 2008 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 WSS (via Bamboo's WssOnVista) AX Client AX Portal AX Business Connector AX EP development tools My clean build is working (so far). All of the .NET Framework Components from the Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.Portal.UI.WebControls namespace are on the Dynamics AX tab as expected. On the original machine, I don't find these controls listed, so I'm guessing it has something to do with a failure to load an assembly (Microsoft.Dynamics.Framework.Portal) to the GAC.

The issue was .tbd files! Fred Shen had it right, but his solution didn't work exactly for me because VS wasn't installed by me. I deleted all .tbd files for all users and voila! Thanks to Fred, thanks to Pin.
