power BI and Embedded Power BI using Azure data lake

Hi,

I have few query regarding power BI report in Finance and Ops. Can you please help me to clarify the following queries

  1. For Embedded Power BI, Operation entity store database (AXDW) is used but if we use Azure Data Lake then AXDW won’t be used anymore. I heard that, it is available for public preview PU25 onwards but is it GA?
  2. For Power BI reports that will be used outside D365F&O, earlier BYOD was used and this is available at present as well. BYOD allows us to replicate the entities to Azure SQL. But if we use Azure Data Lake then entity store is only allowed there and entities cannot be published into the lake as of now. Is there any roadmap on this or already available now?
  3. Power BI reports that are embedded into D365F&O, what is the datasource of these reports while opening the same report from powerbi.com? Does it access AXDW DB or Azure SQL DB?

Regards

RE: power BI and Embedded Power BI using Azure data lake

    Hello everyone,

I do questioning this new approach, does anyone have some news regarding the Entity Store in ADLS ? like will the way to Refresh Entity Store stay the same ? and how it embed in F&O by LCS and upload PBIX in AOT resources.

    Any input will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

RE: power BI and Embedded Power BI using Azure data lake

    Hi all,

It's been nearly a year since the ADLS available for Entity Store, any news from Microsoft yet ?

And is there a clear step how to show the PBIX on workspaces with this ADLS scheme, from Microsoft or any other blog.

    Thanks,

Until MS release a plan to automatically point the workspace from AXDw to DataLake, it will continue pointing to AXDw even if you have pushed some of the data  to Lake.

Analytical workspaces will be upgraded to work on ADLS –no changes will be required by the customer. MS is yet to release any documentation on this

any PowerBi report need data source to be predetermined , if new datasource ADL is being used it won't automatically change

expect MS to share new embed templates with ADL or could create your own

However the entity store is now automatically refreshing the data lake rather than AxDW. That means the embedded power bi reports will have data that is not being refreshed?

No it will still work and continue to point to AxDW.

    Thanks Sayanika,

So as of now, if I setup data lake integration, do you think the embedded power bi content would stop working then, until MS sort out the automatic re-pointing?

RE: power BI and Embedded Power BI using Azure data lake

They should automatically start pointing to data lake. Though Microsoft will provide a transition window for all existing cstomers. But for new customers they will by default start pointing to lake (if you enable the integration)

RE: power BI and Embedded Power BI using Azure data lake

Hi, now that we can integrate ADLS with D365FO entity store and then use Power BI Dataflows to connect to it via CDM, you can create Power BI reports based on it on powerbi.com.

But how will data lake integration affect existing embedded reports in Analytical Workspaces? Do they still point to AXDW database or the integrated data lake?

Will they still work with data lake integration?
