Installing multiple portals of same type

Hi,

is it possible to install multiple portal instances of same type(custom/customer self service) in the same D365 environment(not on different environments), ex: multiple same type of portals on Dev environment?

Tried with PowerApps portals on trial, it warns you on the second one, but couldn't test with D365 on trial, please let me know if you have tried it before.

Thanks

Yes, your overall limit will be 5 (starter, employee self-service, customer self-service, community and partner).  Long term I believe Microsoft would like to remove this limitation (the portal code supports an unlimited number of portals, it's just the setup process right now getting in the way), but it's been a known issue for a while, so I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Hi Jeevan

At the moment is only possible to configure one portal of same type on a single D365 environment.

    Kind Regards

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply, my understanding is the same after spending sometime today, but wanted to double check.

I was playing with it to see how it behaves, so in my trial had a Customer Self Service Portal, then from PowerApps admin centre, I have provisioned another portal of same type under the same environment, strange it let me do that, but apparently it created an extra binding for the same site in D365. Then it won't let me create one more from power apps admin. yet to check from D365 admin.

MS Docs confirmed it is not possible to have same type in their faqs.

    docs.microsoft.com/.../faq

My client's requirement is to implement set of services using portal, one of the option we are exploring is to have separate portal instance for each of the service which I think won't be possible if I want to have same portal type, even with different types, we are limited to 5 or 6 types, I think?

    Thanks

RE: Installing multiple portals of same type

    Hi Jeevan,

Installing multiple portals of the same type is not officially supported.  The underlying issue is that when you install a portal, the data that is included have hard coded IDs, and trying to install a second time results in conflicts.

That being said, because of the similarity between the templates, often there are still ways to get what you need.  For example, if you need two customer self-service, your second portal can be a community portal, which has all the same functionality, plus more. However, if you wanting two within a pure CDS environment (without Dynamics), I don't know how to achieve that.
