Customer Part Number on Sales Order

When we create a sales order, we need to be able to create it using the item numbers that our customer is ordering. Right now, AX 2009 only shows our internal item numbers on a sales order in the Item Number field. Is there a way of entering our customers part number and having AX convert it to an internal item number? Is there any way, in AX, to take a customer part number and do a lookup to find our internal part number?

Thanks in advance, Jerry

Because it is "your" number the system relies on this as an entry. On the sales order you can show the customers number by using the external descriptions option on the item record, this can be printed and displayed on slaes orders, but I believe there is no way as standard to enter this and have it converted to teh internal part number.

Hi hereunder screen shots of how to assign External  Item Description for sales  on an item master. and how it is reflected in the sales order lines, and print outs.

As Weaveriski mentioned there's no standard functionality to use the External item description as alias to the internal code.

Could you use the 'Search name' field on the item master? Or do you have many customers ordering the same item number?

    hi Steven

i am on AX 2012 , and i need to show the customer item number, i have already entered it at the Product card level , but how can i make it display on the sales invoice report ?

should a customization be done for the customer Product number to show or is there a setup for it?

Hi Silvano, there are setup options that will allow you to display the customer part number on the invoice. Take a look at my [old] blog post: timsaxblog.wordpress.com/.../__trashed

    Hope this helps
