App for Outlook On-premise Deployment with no internet

We are developing an on premise setup and all of our users will be using the Dynamics 365 on the local intranet only and all users do not have internet connectivity.

We have an exchange server and we have setup IFD and successfully pushed the App for Outlook to our Outlook 2016.

But we are getting the below error upon launching the app. However when we tried connecting our machine to the internet the app suddenly starts working. My question is "Does App for Outlook require to connect to the Internet"  or can we run this within our local network without the need of the internet? Thanks!!!

    Hello Anifarap,

Per article https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/dynamicscrm-2016/administering-dynamics-365/dn946901(v=crm.8)?redirectedfrom=MSDN in the compare App for Outlook with Outlook Client you can see that you cannot work offline with the App for Outlook.

The reasoning here is that the Microsoft Dynamics 365 App for Outlook Add-in needs Office.js which needs to be downloaded from Office CDN (Content Delivery Network). Even if the files are downloaded, office.js will check connectivity and if there is no internet access it will fail. This is the main reason why the App for Outlook can not be used in Offline mode. Hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Tyson Bosse

The Outlook app cannot be used just with the Intranet.

It needs an internet connection to operate itself.

Thanks based on your explanation I tried to host "Office.js" and other JS files required with a bit of modification to some CRM html files and was able to get it to work without internet. But this is not a clean and supported solution and any updates to Outlook and CRM may cause this to stop working. Just wanted to explore with an alternative

Yep, it always requires modifications to CRM files, and it's annoying a little bit. As I know, there are few nice solution on the software market about this type of issue. Some people say that custom crm development company called Avenga somehow resolved this type of problem, by implementing some new features in the core of application. Simply wanna check it.
