Business Central API Webhook Notification table (2000000096) not populated?

We created/registered a subscription in table 2000000095 for an API based on the Customer table. We made sure it is active but whatever we do we are not getting any records in the notification table 2000000096 after creating/modifying records in the Customer table. We know about the delay but after even several minutes we are not seeing any records being created.

We are using OAuth for authentication (Entra App registration with successful grants and also used in other scenario's). User connected to Entra App registration has SUPER equivalent permissions (to make sure this is not causing the issue).

As far as I understand this should be working out of the box but is there any hidden setup I need to do? I have also restarted the environment (SaaS) to make sure it is not being caused by an unstable environment.

If anyone could help or point in a direction it would be greatly appriciated.

Kind regards,

Erik

    Hello Erik,
This normally does work out of the box, but the key point is that webhook subscriptions in Business Central are meant to be created through the subscriptions API + handshake, not by manually inserting directly into table 2000000095. Microsoft’s docs are very explicit that when a subscription is created, BC sends a validationToken to the notificationUrl, and the subscriber must return that token with 200 OK; only then is the subscription properly registered and notifications start flowing. Also, not every API/entity is webhook-enabled, so first confirm your customers resource shows up in webhookSupportedResources. One more easy-to-miss point from the docs: changes made by users who can’t schedule job queues are not notified until a user who can schedule job queues changes the same table, so test with a normal supported subscription created via API and with a user that can schedule job queues. So my first advice is: don’t write to 2000000095 directly; create the subscription through /api/v2.0/subscriptions, verify the handshake succeeded, confirm the target resource is supported, and then retest Customer changes.

@OussamaSabbouh thank you for your response!

We did use the subscriptions API + handshake and did not add the record directly in the table. Also, the subscription is shown in webhookSupportedResources, the user has SUPER permissions (temporary to exclude this being the issue) and still no inserts or modifications show up in table 2000000095 (which I use to check if records are created). This table remains empty and we still do not receive any notifications.

Am I right to assume that records should be created in this table or are they only temporary?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Kind regards,

    Erik
