Fixed Assets Book Id Button Disabled when posting FA to GL

Hi,

I'm using Dynamics GP 2015 r2, have configured 2 books one named just 2019 and the other Internal, the issue is that when I try to run the process of posting FA to GL

(Financial >> Routines >> Fixed Assets >> GL Posting)

I can't select the Book Id, the dropdown combo box y disabled (grayed out) and it only shows the Internal book.

How can we make available the option to select which book I want to run the GL posting to?

I've checked many times the configuration and it seems ok, so far I'm stuck.

Thanks in advanced

What you are seeing is by design. By default, only the book set as your corporate book will post to GL (Tools>Setup>Fixed Assets>Company, look to the corporate book setting).

It is possible to have multiple books post to the GL. However this is by enabling reporting ledgers in GL (functionally this creates 3 separate GL ledgers that do not talk to each other) then marking to allow reporting ledgers back in the FA company setup window, and finally assigning one of the additional ledgers to the second book (Tools>Setup>Fixed Assets>Book).

Reporting ledgers also cannot be disabled once enabled. Since the additional reporting ledgers are separate from the "base" ledger usually people turn it on and then want to turn it off right away (but cant).

As an alternative to reporting ledgers, one thing I have seen some companies do is change the corporate book in the FA company setup window and then do the next posting for the additional books. This has some very big gotchas to keep in mind however. If an asset is in multiple books YOU WILL have issues since an asset has only one set of accounts (you will be double posting the values). You may need to switch corp book to run certain FA reports and get the data you are looking for, etc.
