Item Number with hyphen issues

I have very heavy customized AX 2009.

And, I tried to create Purchase Order on Customer Service Workstation.

Then, added a line item like "H123-NC".

The AX infolog prompted messages "Item H123NC" does not exist.

On the hand, the Item ID "H123-NC" existed on Item Master.

Then, I looked the SalesTable and it showed ItemID defined as NVarchar(20).

I'm not sure why AX prompted this errors.

Please help and advice.

Thank you,
Edwin

With a system administrator access you could double click the error message text, and that should take you to the code line which has raised the error. If that does not help, you could add a breakpoint on \Classes\Info\add in a Development/Test environment (you should not debug production), and code execution should stop whenever you get an infolog message, then you could navigate the Call stack to see what is going on.

I would avoid using special characters in unique identifier fields such as ItemId, stick to alphanumeric characters.

I double click the AX infolog message and it did not bring me to codes.

It prompted "The value 'H123NC' in filed 'Item number' is not found in relating table 'Items'

    It removed the hyphen.

You should ask a developer from your team to sort this out for you.

If you could not open the error message code, then the only way is to work your way through the other suggested option with a developer on a non-Production environment, by putting a breakpoint at the right places of the application to check what is going on.

The Dev found a flag in our Custom AX that setup to prevent Hyphen character in AX form.

Then, we deleted the Hyphen flag and it's working now.

Again, many thanks for your helps and advice.

    Thank you,
    Edwin
