Demand forecast reduction on sales order delivery is not working

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I have manually created demand forecast for item with 1000 quantity and sales order for same item with 500 quantity for same site and warehouse.

When I run master scheduling then system generates planned production order of 1000 and requirement profile show the breakup of 1000 as 500 for demand forecast and 500 for sales order I created earlier.

When I process production order partially and deliver the sales order with 500 quantity and run the master scheduling once again, then requirement profile shows the breakup as 1000 for demand forecast.

That means, even though I consume the forecast by delivering the sales order with 500 quantity, system is not actually consuming it.

Please help to resolve this issue.

    Hi Amol,

Could you provide screenshots of your setup. Is your reduction principle set to transactions - dynamic period? Sounds like you are using a period coverage group. Is this the case?

When you re-run planning are there still 500 items to be reported as finished on your production order?

Are your posting your sales order delivery in the right forecast period?

If you have 1000 forecasted for January and a SO delivery planned in January it will consume from the forecasted 1000, but if you post the packing slip in December it will consume from the forcasted qty planned for December.

    Hi Amar and Fredrik,

    Thank you for your reply.

I am using forecast reduction principle - "Transactions - reduction key" with reduction key defined in coverage group having monthly periods.

I have no stock when demand forecast in manually defined with quantity 1000 pcs in Dec'15.

I have distribution warehouse for selling product and production warehouse for manufacturing product. I am defining item coverage for both warehouses. For distribution warehouse change planned order type is ticked and planned order type is transfer with main warehouse defined as production warehouse.

I have defined the demand forecast for product with site and warehouse of distribution warehouse in Dec'15.

I have also created new sales order of 500 pcs for same product in Dec'15 with same site and warehouse of distribution warehouse defined in demand forecast.

When master scheduling is executed, AX has generated one 1000 pcs planned transfer order from production warehouse to distribution warehouse with requirement profile 500 pcs for sales order & 500 pcs for demand forecast and one 1000 pcs planned production order for manufacturing product in production warehouse with requirement profile 1000 pcs transfer order.

When production order is firmed and processed partially and 500 pcs are transferred to distribution warehouse and sales order of 500 pcs is delivered, again master scheduling is executed. In requirement profile, I can see again 1000 pcs are available under demand forecast.

So, even though sales order is delivered AX is not consuming it and again showing 1000 pcs in requirement profile of planned order.

Please let me know if you need some more information.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Amol

    1. Why can't you use Dynamic Period?

    2. How does your reduction key look like / How many percent is reduced in the period mentioned?

Have you set up a reduction key? and if so how have you got it setup. You can always use the dynamic reduction principle which would automatically reduce the forecast based upon the sales order

    Hi Fredrik,

    Thank you for your reply.

I want to plan the demand and supply per month. I don't want to roll my demand and supply over next month. So, I am using reduction key with fixed dates of monthly period.

So, reduction key is created by using wizard with fixed periods starting with beginning of year till end of year for 12 months. So based on number of months AX has calculated the percent from 100 % in first month till 7.69 % in last month of year.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Amol

    Hi Everyone,

This problem is still there in AX 2012 R3 CU10.

Please let me know if it can be resolved by correcting some wrong setup.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Amol,

I would suggest looking into the "reduction key" in the item coverage group.

Here is a blog post that explains the need for this setting and I believe it solves your issue:

    Any news on this topic?

I have the same issue - i have a demand forecast, reduction principle = transactions - reduction key, reduction key = 1 year with fixed start. When the Sales order is open, the forecast is reduced. When the SO is invoiced and I update the net requirements on the item, I see again the whole quantity as requirement from the demand.
