Hi all,

I'm wondering if it's possible to embad  Dynamics 365 Guides  in PowerApps.

    Yes !

A Power App can modify a Guides in (almost) realtime, but for now you can just modify the text instruction.

Also a Guides can be opened by an URL or a QRCode.

    That’s helpful context.

    I’ve got two suggestions:

    Hi Nouria,

There is a search functionality in the HoloLens 2 Guides application that lets you search for specific guides by name. This is what we frequently use to find what we need in our large list of Guides.

There is also the restricted Operator Role. With this role you can limit which Guides are visible to your users, this way even if you have 100s of guides, perhaps each user doesn't actually need access to all of them. You can provide access to specific subsets of Guides that are only meant for those users, this way they can easily find what they need without going through every single Guide that has been created for your organization, or for that environment.

There is also a sorting feature available for administrators that Microsoft plans to eventually release for the whole application (or so I have heard) that will let you group Guides into specific folders for easier navigation.

    Hello Andrew,

I'm already using the PC app and the HoloLens app to create work instruction guides. However the issue is that by the end of my mission there will be more than  a hundred work instruction guides. so in order sort them according to their need, they suggested doing it by using a custom application in which  for example I can search for the name of the guide, search a training guide or maintenance guide...etc.)

    Thanks for the Link.

    Hello Nouria,

I think perhaps there is some confusion. For an end user, Guides is a two part system, there is a Desktop application used to create and add content to a set of work instructions, and a HoloLens 2 application that can be used to finish creation of a guide or to use to get a series of Holographic work instructions.

If you have been tasked with implementing an application where they can view work instructions created using Dynamics 365 Guides on the HoloLens, then that is part of Guides.

This video might help you understand all the pieces.

    Hi all,

Thank you for all your answers!

I'm totally new to Dynamics 365 Guides and I'm currently making work instruction guides for the technical staff in a company. They asked me to developpe a PowerApp application  to implement in the HL2 in which  they can find the instruction guides (created with Dynamics 365 Guides).

From what I understood , it is not possible for the moment.

    Ps: Excuse my bad english.

Good points Ken and thanks for providing a much more detailed answer. If the goal is to use a Guide from within a power app then that isn't possible right now. It may be at some point as the AR capabilities of Mobile devices these days is powerful enough to enable a Guides like experience (and we have built internal projects at my company that provide similar experience on mobile).

But if you wanted to do something with Guides information stored in the Dataverse through a PowerApp, then yes that is possible.

Guides is a PowerApp sort of. Parts of Guides (backend, PC studio) but the actual interface is more of custom app using Unity or UWP (or both at this point, I haven't kept up) to do the interaction between the HL2 running Guides and the environment.

Now the Microsoft Guides Dev Team is working backwards towards PowerApps and usage on handheld devices. Mean while, the PowerApps Mixed Reality Team is working forwards to work on the hololens 2.

From the a user team I am on, my understanding is that the PowerApps MR doesn't understand the HL2 operating system to work. At least from what PowerApps team told me when I asked them several months ago. Guides technically acts as a software wrapper for PowerApps to work.Additionally, the Guides HL2 software doesn't understand that context of being used in a hand held device. But both teams are getting there and perhaps they will weight in with some nugget of breaking news :)

I think we both agree that @Nouria could build and use a PowerApp to (1) interact with the backend or Guides PC Studio or (2) perhaps embedded a QR code that launches the Guides program within the HL2.

But to be able to create a Guide and embed a "User Guide" experience in a PowerApp (which PowerApps are only hand held device supported) with the expectation that the Guide would be able to run on a phone or a tablet is not possible at this time.

So I guess the question is which part of the Guides ecosystem @Nouria is looking to interact with the PowerApp.

    Yes! You most definitely can.

Please see the table references for Dataverse here: docs.microsoft.com/.../developer-entity-reference

The Guides environment is itself is a Power App, so yes this should be possible to have another Power App do something with Guides, just like how you can call a Power App from inside a Guide.
