Enabling advanced warehouse management in AX 2012 R3

Hi,

we have been using inventory management in AX 2012 R3 CU 8 and would like to upgrade  our warehouses to use advanced warehouse management, . i would like to know the best way to do this? is it possible to enable Advanced warehouse on a my current warehouse or should i create a new Advanced warehouse and migrate the items to the new warehouse? what is the exact process to upgrade? will there be a business downtime doing so?

    Please note that converting a existing warehouse to new advance warehouse is not supported. So if the same warehouse ID needs to be continued then you need to make a new one enable the one for advance warehouse and move the master data and transaction data using customer code or manually update the same.

    However I would strongly recommend not to use any custom codes and methods to move transaction data and try to continue this way as there are so higher changes of a failure and high list of issues which would later collapse your upgrade project.

    Try and stick to the below process and works with very little risk and stable upgrade.

    1 > Cancel all open orders

    2 > Sell all on hand

    3 > Inventory closing

    4 > Make new warehouse (Advance warehouse)

    5 > Update all the items for the new master data required for new advance warehouse solution

    6 > Receive all on hand inventory on new warehouse

    The above shared bold shares other way to move transaction data which are highly risky not because that cant be achieved but it solely depends on the planning of upgrade and capabilities of the technical team. The risk are very high.

    There has to be a fine boundary to move to new solution and thats the best.
