remove an option set value

Hi All,

I have the below scenario and looking for some help.

I have an option set in all our environments.  in DEV environment i have added it to a solution and deleted one of the values from this.  When I export the solution and import it into UAT environment as Managed the value is still present in this environment.  I have tried numerous methods of the solution deployment, patches, stage for upgrade, apply solution upgrade.  however none of these are successful in deleting the value.

The Solution Layers show the Solution i have been using should be the one impacting changes on this Field.

As another test I created a new Option Set in the DEV with some values, deployed this to UAT as managed.  then went back to DEV, deleted some values and deployed the solution to UAT which has deleted these values.

can someone clarify what the behaviour of this should be as i'm getting inconsistent results.

any help much appreciated.

    Hi,

Did you check 'overwrite customization' radio button during package installation?

Solution deployments are nondestructive.  you can't delete items from a solution.  You either need to make the remove part of an automated deployment plan, or you have to manually remove it in destination systems.

Hi Wayne, appreciate the response, however I have been able to remove option set values using a solution deployment. But not this particular field

    Hi,

Is your field present in multiple solutions or just one?

    Hi, it's in multiple

Then maybe you have to deploy all solutions that contain that field? Maybe it doesn't update well if you have in your destination environment another solution with the same option set but with the more values.

Can someone confirm whether this is the correct answer? I'm having difficulty nailing down this and other nuances of solution updates, and every bit of trustworthy information is very helpful.

See this article which basically says if you didn't create the optionset (a.g. MS created) you cannot remove options from it through a managed solution.
