Payroll Year end Close Check Date

Hey all,

Quick Question: If we close payroll for 2021 and the last pay period and check date flow into 2022, how does GP process that.

For example, this year our last pay period is from December 26th 2021 to January 1st 2022. We will print the checks on January 4th 2022. Will GP process all of the check for last year, this year, or partially? Would love any recommendations anyone has.

    Hello,

    The check date would need to occur in 2021 for your payroll to be valid for the current year, the system does not separate the daily pay materials by date for tax purposes.

    As such, if your check date is going to be any date in 2022 we would recommend closing the payroll year prior to running the next check run, after which you can install the tax update for 2022 so the '2022' branded check run would include the entirety of the pay checks in question.
