Problem: I am having trouble getting AX 2012 to allow users to attach simple notes to records.
I am using MS Dynamics AX 2012 R2, kernel 6.2.1000.6189, application 6.2.1000.4051.
I have been using the instructions in this link:
http://technet.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/dn636897.aspx
The result:
If I go to a record such as a sales quotation, sales quotation line, released product, etc. I get no response. If I highlight a record and open the File -> Command -> Document Handling... well, I can't because the menu item Document Handling is disabled so no response there. If I open the record in edit I cannot add attachments there either. Clicking the attachments button on the action pane does nothing; no spinning blue ball, no info log, no visible changes. The attachments button in the status bar appears to be disabled.
What am I missing here?

I suspect that you checked the "Always enabled" button when adding a new record into the "Active document tables" form when you got this to work? It definitely isn't clear from the MS instructions that there are cases where you need to add records into the "Active document tables" and that the "Always enabled" needs to be checked - the specific case is where the table involved is not editable in the form you are using. I hope everything is working okay now, I put a little more detail on this here.

Hello All,
I have logged into AX client as a system user.. I am able to open docuview form i.e. document handling form but I am unable to edit the description in that form
When I try to access the same form as a system user I am able to edit the description in the docuview form
Kindly advice
Thank you
Shankar
If you want to open up all tables for documents and not have to add each table to the above suggestion, then open document management parameters and make sure the checkbox is unchecked for Use Active document tables.
Oh wow, I went into The Active Document Tables and added a reference to the SalesTable (Sales Orders) and it sprang to life.
I need to go back and look at that TechNet article. Was this in there? Is it so obvious that I should have just known? The link is a close neighbor to the Document Management Parameters.
Well, thanks a lot. I appreciate the quick response.
Hi Frazier,
You can try two options:
- Open Organization Administration\Setup\Document Management\Active document tables. And add the table here
- Check user rights on and status of the source table. e.g. Sales quotation. Are they allowed to change the record or is it already closed?
