New way to track contacts from Outlook for Microsoft 365 to Dynamics?

I'm using both the desktop and web versions of Outlook with D365 Sales and am provisioned/licensed correctly with the D365 App for Outlook. Sync is configured properly with server-side Exchange of mail, appointments, contacts, etc.

I could swear there used to be a way to pick a contact from your contact list in Outlook and manually choose to track it in Dynamics, but this feature seems completely missing. I believe the disappearance coincided with this new version of Outlook that places the navigation icons for Mail, People, Tasks, etc. down the left-hand side of the window in a vertical sidebar, which is where previously you could launch the app from within Outlook. We used to be able to, for example, choose the "Add-ins" icon and launch the D365 app inside Outlook that way, but that option is no longer available. Clicking on "More apps" just brings up a pane to install more apps.

Even recent MS documentation on the subject refers to something that doesn't seem to even exist anymore. The following docs article:

Track Outlook contacts in Dynamics 365 for Outlook

states,

  1. In Dynamics 365 for Outlook, choose People in the navigation pane, and then select up to 20 contacts.

There is no such option for tracking in the People section as described.

Is this no longer possible? I am trying to on-board a new D365 user that would like to start tracking her existing (long list) of contacts in Outlook in Dynamics.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

Thanks, but as I said in my original post, "Clicking on "More apps" just brings up a pane to install more apps."

    It's not in there.

    Hi,

    Have you checked More Apps?

And you can refer the following link to check:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/dynamics-365/sales/app-does-not-appear-within-outlook

Or you can open one ticket for Microsoft support for further help:

(Edited - to provide more information)

Yes, the app was pushed to all eligible users. It appears as a button/icon in the ribbon, but not in "More apps".

    1. The Add-in is reported as already added. Just for good measure I re-added it (twice).

    2. The app icon appears in the ribbon, and functions for mail.

    3. The add-in does not appear in the "add-ins" list otherwise in the way that yours shows.

Why is it missing, and what can be done to bring it back in?

    Hi Bob,

Have you deployed and installed d365 app for outlook?

You can refer the following documentation to check all steps:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/outlook-app/deploy-dynamics-365-app-for-outlook

After setting all successfully, the app will appear in the Outlook ribbon for the added users.

Also, the Dynamics 365 app will appear in the More Apps:

    Then you can track contacts:

Seems like an essential function, especially as people struggle to migrate from tin-can and string CRM using email and spreadsheets to adopting tools like D365.

I can only say I'm having the same question for a while already. Looked everywhere, did not find anything usable.
