Uploaded lists of leads are now all Orphaned Leads

Hi,

Having followed the Microsoft Dynamics instructions, we have uploaded our prospect lists as leads, but we now can't market to them (i.e. include them in customer journeys or lead scores, send emails, etc.).

These leads are now all 'Orphaned Leads' without an associated contact, which means we can't work with them from a marketing perspective, which in my view defeats the object of uploading them as leads.

Looks like the only options we have, are to 'Qualify' them, so that Dynamics automatically makes them into a 'Contact' and 'Account' which means we CAN use them within our marketing campaigns, but this way, we will have thousands of 'Opportunities' which will clog up our 'Real' opportunities list and interfere with our reports. Or, we could upload them all again as 'Contacts' and associate each lead with a contact, or delete the leads and let the lead scoring deal with their conversion into a lead, but this way it would either take weeks to associate each lead with a contact, or the latter way we would loose the lead data we have (i.e. timeline, etc.).

Surely there is an easier way for this? Can anyone help?

Thanks,

CP

    Hi CP,

It is recommended to create existing contacts/ accounts for the leads with workflow.

The existing contact/ account (whose display name is Parent Contact for Lead/ Parent Account for Lead) is a field in Lead entity and only leads associated with parent contacts or accounts can be scored.

So please refer to the following steps to create the workflow.

    Image

Insert a step to create the related contact for the record.

    Image

Set the value of the field in contact record with the existing value which you need in the lead record.

Then update the lead record itself.

Set the contact just created as the parent contact of the lead.

After activating the workflow, you can select multiple / all leads and trigger the workflow for them manually.

It eliminates the challenge of having to create contacts for a large number of leads.
