Link or Tag Multiple Sales Orders for Single Shipment

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

We're on NAV 2015 and use Lanham E-Ship.  We have times where a customer will have multiple Sales Orders they want shipped in a single package/shipment.  We know how to ship multiple documents through E-Ship, so that's covered.  Our current process for all shipments is to walk a paper document down to the shipping department and they ship off those documents.  If a customer has multiple Sales Orders they want us to ship together, the salesperson will staple those orders together a physically hand them to the shipping person.  We're trying to transition off a paper based shipping process and move to an electronic based system.  How can we electronically tag or link multiple Sales Orders so when a Shipper pulls up one Sales Order they will know there are other Orders that need to ship with it?  We don't have any Warehouse Options other than Bin Mandatory enabled.

The requirement is to handle multiple Sales Order in one Shipment and Warehouse Shipment perfectly fits here. Combine Shipment is definitely not the option as it is used to create one invoice for multiple shipments.

Warehouse Shipment is a much simpler and recommended solution in comparison to using an add-on considering that this is available in standard.

I understand that Warehouse Shipment is not enabled at the moment but Setting it up will not be too complex or time taking.  However I am not too sure on Lanham EDI impect if it handles Warehouse Shipment.

Warehouse shipment is a solution but it needs to handle the location as a warehouse location (and to setup the Warehouse module in NAV), and I don't think this is the requirement.

Combine shipments instead is a solution to invoice multiple shipments at the same time. (this batch job can be used when you have sales orders that have been shipped but not yet invoiced).

As standard (without warehouse), NAV doesn't permit you to create a standard sales shipment with lines that comes from many different orders. We have this in our addon, but it's a custom implementation.

Not sure on Lanham E-Ship but sending Shipment for multiple Sales Order is possible using Warehouse Shipment functionality. You can create Warehouse Shipment and pull multiple Sales Order in one Shipment and posting it will result in posting Shipment on those Sales Order. You will to enable Warehouse Shipment from Location page.

Maybe Combine Shipments functionality will help you (works for the same customer's shipments) :

    and about batch job:

    msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh179011(v=nav.80).aspx

You need to work on a customization. On the Sales Header, you can create a new field for connecting other Sales Orders. Then you need to handle the combined shipment of the connected orders. This is absolutely possible but with a not so small work.
