Activities Timestamp overriden after opportunity reassigned

Hi everyone,

I believe this question was answered earlier, but I needed some clarity on how to implement the solution. Scenario: We have a bunch of opportunities that need to be reassigned after an employee has left. The activities in the timeline/social pane have their respective timestamps(which I understand are modified by dates). On reassiging the records (changing owner), the timestamps are reset.

Q1. How to retain the older timestamps. I've read some articles about configuring cascading rules but did not understand the limitations or possible future impacts of this setting. If this is the ideal solution, how to implement it?

Q2. As an alternative, can "Sharing" the record retain the old information?

Thank you for all the help.

    Hi pirateinnature,

For 'I couldn’t find which entity contained the card form with the modified date.'

It's normal, The default form selected in timeline is not one form you can't view and customize, you just can customize the card form for each activity entity, then select the customized form for the activity in the opportunity timeline.

The first entity is what you need.

For 'The configuration view does not resemble the docs link provided by Leah.' the card form you provided is right, which is same with mine.

So you can add 'Created On' field as second in the Header section.

In opportunity form, open timeline to edit it:

    Hi Bipin,

Thank you for your prompt response. Unfortunately, I’ve forgotten the login details to the account I posted this question from. I tried to follow the steps suggested to configure the email card form. I couldn’t find which entity contained the card form with the modified date.

There are 2 entities. The first one has a card form.

The configuration view does not resemble the docs link provided by Leah. Can you please guide me to it? I might be searching in the wrong place.

Alternatively what I have done in the meantime is to turn off cascading for the individual activities in relation to Opportunity entity. The guide for which is provided here powerobjects.com/.../

This would achieve the result of the timestamps not being reset on re-assigning opportunities.

While this works for future re-assignments, it would be helpful to understand configuration of email card forms so I can display the accurate create dates for activities.

Really appreciate your patience if you’ve read this far.

    Cheers!

    Hi,

Sharing of a record does not modify dates/timestamps but assigning will change timestamps.

You can't retain timestamp on Assigning but you use different date field on timeline card form configuration.

Please mark my answer verified if this is helpful!

    Hi hhindocha,

Does the "timestamp" you mentioned refer to the highlighted part on the screenshot below?

    pastedimage1641882224802v1.png

In timeline, all activities show fields and layout with default card form, and the 'Modified On' field is showed for most activities by default.

    pastedimage1641884100287v3.png

When you assign opportunities to others, the 'Modified On' field will be changed.

If you want to keep the original timestamp, you need customize card forms within timeline to make it show other time field that can't be changed easily.(Example-Created on)

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/customer-service/customer-service-hub-user-guide-timeline-admin#customize-a-card-from-within-timeline

And share records can't change the 'Modified On' field.
