Data Export and Dataverse

Hi,

So I've been trying to understand the better way to export data from D365 F&O and Supply Management to create external reports on PowerBi.

All over the internet I'm seeing suggestions to use /Azure Synapse Link/ or to directly connect to D365 using the OData Connection available on PowerBI. Being that both these solutions are basically using dataverse tables.

My question is, is every D365 application on top of Dataverse? If yes, are custom tables automatically there or are there steps to do that?

Any source of information on this would be highly appreciated.

Neither of that is directly related to Dataverse. The export to Data Lake (which can then be used by Synapse) takes data directly from F&O tables. It's true that it utilizes Common Data Model, but not Dataverse. And if you call the OData service that F&O offers, you're talking to F&O, not Database. (Note that Dataverse offers OData services too.)

Which doesn't say that you can't use Dataverse. It seems that using Dataverse will likely be the primary option in future, but it's not true that everything goes throw Dataverse these days.

F&O (Dynamics 365 Finance, Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management and so on) are not based on Dataverse. That's true only for former Dynamics CRM (Dynamics 365 Sales, Dynamics 365 Customer Service etc.). You can get F&O data to Dataverse either through virtual entities (when the data isn't stored in Dataverse) or you can copy data from F&O to Dataverse.
