I'm working on a new implementation of D365 Finance. I'm considering linking Account structures to Org hierarchy. Wondering if there are any drawbacks or points to consider with this configuration? I want to leverage the org hierarchy to drive valid values, for example Division A should have access to Site 1..3 while Division B should have access to Site 4..6. Seems like this link helps simplify the Account structure and makes maintaining it easier. Also seems that this config centralizes admin of Divisions and Sites to the Org hierarchy. Any points you can share? Phase 1 is Finance only, phase 2 will include P2P and other operational workload. Getting the finance structure right is therefore very important. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
Hi Andre,
It worked. Thanks for your prompt reply.
Hi Hossam,
Make sure that you created a new draft of the account structure.
Hi Andre, I was following your video on hierarchies. For some reason I am not able to click the include checkbox on the setup relationships option. Hence I am not able to establish a relationship between account structure and organizational hierarchy. I would be grateful if you can help me with this issue. I just click the include checkbox, and the minute I move the cursor away the line becomes unchecked.
Hi Aaron,
This is a good approach. It is not too complex. Just one relation via the hierarchy is manageable.
For the selfie.... do you have plans to travel to Europe? Or probably one day at a certain Microsoft event...
Hi André – thanks for the quick reply.
I selected Business unit for Divisions, and Department for Site. Both are set up in Org hierarchies (Div A, Site 1..3, Div B, Site 4..6, etc.) and are set up as entity-backed financial dimensions. I linked the Div>Site relationship to the Account structure which looks like: MA+DIV+SITE+others.
Any other considerations or impacts of this design?
Really appreciate all the sharing you do! I think if I see you on the street someday, I’ll ask for your autograph and a selfie – you and the good Dr. Ludwig Reinhard – the D365 Finance functional superstars!
I have split your question from the original thread as your question is different.
Note that you can only use the internal organizations linked to financial dimensions. These are: Operating units, departments, cost centers, value streams and retail channels. All other financial dimensions are not backed with an internal organization and can't be used within the organization hierarchies. If you have a simple scenario like a relation between Departments and Cost centers, there is no caveat here.
If you need another dimension part of the organization hierarchy, you will need to go for a customization.
