Segment & Subscription List - How do we send first newsletter ? Subscription list does not have any subscriptions yet?

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to send Monthly (Recurring) Newsletters to the Contacts. I would like to send the emails to the Contacts who has subscribed for.

1. Create a Segment with Subscription List: When the first newsletter will be sent none of the Contact has subscribed for the newsletter i.e. Subscription List does not have any member yet.

2. Use Dynamic Segment: I can add Dynamic Segment with some criteria, and then send the newsletter. However the challenge is to send newsletters thereafter to the Contacts who has subscribed for this newsletter. The steps which I am thinking of for this approach are

A. Add a Dynamic Segment to Customer Journey.

B. Send a newsletter to Contacts using Customer Journey.

C. Contacts who has subscribed for the newsletter, send them the next newsletter from thereon.

The challenge with this approach is the newsletter will be sent to the Contacts who are member of the Dynamic Segment.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Hi Dnyaneshwar,

By steps you mentioned above, only contacts in marketing list will receive newsletter.

You could build two customer journeys to let contacts subscribe a list for the first time.

The first customer journey will only send contacts a marketing email with a link to subscrpition center(for customers who have existed in our database) and make them manage their subscription in the page.

( For the first time, none of subscription list options are checked.)

Another option(for customers who not exist in our database) is that including a landing page in the marketing email, the landing page had been added several subscption lists as part of form.

It will enable inbound (previously unknown) contacts to sign up for one or more mailing lists at the same time they register.

Then we could use second customer journey to send newsletter to members in subscription list monthly.

Thank you for your help on this.

If I follow below mentioned steps then how will the Marketing email sent to the Contacts who has not yet subscribed for for the Subscription List?

1. Created Subscription List and updated Subscription Center.

2. Created Customer Journey and added the Segment tile. Selected the Subscription List in Child Segment tile properties.

3. Added the Marketing Email tile and updated the subscription list created in 1st step.

If I follow above mentioned steps, then will the Marketing Email sent to any of the Contacts? As there is no Contact has subscribed and become member of the Subscription List?

How do the Contacts picked for the first time?

I understand that once the Contacts receive the Marketing email then they can opt-in and members of the Subscription List will be updated. Post that we can send Marketing emails to the ones who has opted in. However how will send the email to target Contacts for the first time?

Hi Dnyaneshwar,

You could use default "Monthly Newsletter" template to send monthly newsletter to your contacts.

In customer journey setting, we could send emails to members in a specific marketing/subscription list directly without segment.
