We need to adjust one of our entities to record transactions with 0 decimal places. Most of our entities use 2 decimal places for transactions but we have come upon this exception. Is this a setting at the company level, or do we need to edit multiple settings within the company? We use the Financial, Sales and Purchasing series.
Richard,
I had a customer running into this issue after creating a new currency and a new company, realizing afterwards that they should have setup with 0 decimals instead of 2.. As they only had brought over the beginning balances, it was easier to just scrap the company, adjust the currency setting and re-create the company. There is no easy way to do this once transactions have been posted into the system, without running into a few troubles.
Hey Richard,
Thank you for your update.
I did some testing and it does not seem to be a place when creating a new company that you can change the precision of decimal place for currency.
Wishing you and yours healthy and happy days ahead!

Nicole, that was fascinating. I never noticed that before. If I were setting up a new company is there a screen where I could change the currency precision or is only done through SSMS?
Hi Richard,
I am not sure exactly, the request came to change the decimal places at the transaction level. We do not use many items currently and so i think we are talking about invoices (AR and AP) as well as GL journal entries. Thank you for helping me clarify the currency settings. I was pretty sure this would be a system wide change but glad you were able to confirm. Really appreciate you taking the time!
Thank you, Nicole! This related article was helpful and I think gives me enough to go back to our tech and accounting teams for clarity on next steps.
Is the currency question regarding the totals of invoices and POs or the cost of items or both? The currency setup for currency is system wide not company specific.
Hello J.Weed,
Thank you for your post.
Thank you, Richard, for your feedback as well!
I am not sure if you seen this already, but I wanted to include it:
How to decrease the number of decimal places in Currency Setup

What is the current decimal place set to?
We don’t recommend lowering the decimal place value after transactions have been entered/posted as you will experience rounding issues.
Wishing you and yours healthy and happy days ahead.

Thanks for the reply! I am talking about currency. I think I found how to edit the currency settings, but ii looks like this is system wide and not specific to one company file. Does that align with your understanding?
Are you referring to currency or quantity?
