Batch Tracking on Items

Hi Team,

We want to introduce batch tracking for items.

Can you please give me an overview of the steps that would be required to make these changes to large number of items. What are the things that need to be considered? The client doesn't want to go for option 1.

  1. Creating all new items: we need to Close the inventory, Move the on-hand inventory to new batch tracking. Make old ones as an obsolete. But we need to know how many products in total require this change to assess the feasibility of this option. If the products are in a larger number e.g 150 to 200 then this may not be a feasible option.
  2.   Allow Blank Issue Ticked: Create a new tracking dimension group with Batch number active and 'Allow blank issue' ticked. Then issue out all your existing inventory (blank batch number) and receive it (with batch numbers). Then change to a tracking group with 'Allow blank issue' not ticked. But it won’t work properly if you have any lines in InventTrans with ValueOpen=yes.
  3. Modification: We can do modification and try to update the tracking group to ‘batched tracked’ from the back end and test it by posting transactions if it’s yielding the desired result. The developer said it's not feasible either.

Please advise which option can be feasible or has someone came across a similar kind of situation.

Thanks in Advance

    Hi Umer786,

I experienced a similar situation on AX2012, where the client wanted to activate the batch dimension for some items that already had movement.

By the time we went for the second option and indeed we had to close all transactions before doing it.

We performed an inventory close and that was enough to change all our InventTrans records with ValueOpen=yes to ValueOpen=no.
