Visual Planning Tools for MRP

Our Production Planning dept is looking for tool that will help them analyze and manage Planned Orders created by MRP execution.  They want to see gantt chart like (or other visual display) that will inform them about order of production, work centers, qtys, time, etc.  Something easier to understand then the grid  in Planned Order Details form.

If I can, I want to avoid developping this in-house.

Do you have any suggestion of existing tools for this?

There are Gantt charts as standard in AX, and you can certainly see Gantt charts on production and resources. They are not graphically great but they are a starting point - have you tried those?

I also asked a similar question here: community.dynamics.com/.../105445.aspx

Thanks for your linked discussion, it was helpful.

We already had a demo of Dynamics Software's tool but it was still not enough for our planning team.

I'll take a look at Preactor, Planettogether as mention in your discussion.  What would be the downsides of those solutions instead of a fully integrated one (like Dynamics Software)?  They are still "Ax aware", it's just that they are outside of Ax code so you can't really customized them with X++, right?

If you were to go with preactor say you would let it do all of the scheduling, that is its strength, so you push out works orders, schedule and bring the final results back, it simply becomes an interface. Planning may not like your results :-) Treat them as external systems, yes you can customize them but they are not AX.

You could also look at FastReact: http://www.fastreact.com/  Seen this in a 2009 deployment and quite an effective visual planning tool.  Still need to export out to tool and import results.
