Subscription List targeting Leads

Hi everyone,

I am currently in the process of transferring my clients data from their previous marketing module to Dynamics Marketing.
In the old system they have Subscription Lists targeting Leads.

Is this possible in Dynamics Marketing?
When I create a new subscription list, I can choose "Marketing List Member Type" and set it to Lead if I unlock the field. But when I create a new Customer Journey, I can only choose Contact or Account. see below.

Does this mean that I need to create a Contact every time a Lead is created, so I can e-mail the Contact related to the Lead? Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

    Hi, 9altitudesEDP

Yes, Marketing List Member Type is locked so we cannot choose “Lead” in Subscription list.  In Customer journey General tab, we can only select “Contact” or “Account” in target column.

Dynamics 365 Marketing uses contact records to represent leads:

    1. When we create a lead without contact or account, the warning will show below the lead creation page: "The lead has no contact or account assigned, lead scores are unavailable."

    2. If the lead with contact or account, the warning will be missing. It means that it is needed to create a lead with contact or account, so we can send email to contacts related leads.

9altitudesEDP - although you might be able to unlock the field and set it to Lead and then put Leads in to that Subscription List, you can currently only create a subscription centre (place for people to opt in and out of your subscription lists) for a Contact to interact with.

You can market to Leads (send them through a Customer Journey) but only if you are using Real-time Marketing and not Outbound Marketing.

This is is scheduled to be in preview in July, but has already had the date moved a few times, and it's not guaranteed that it would allow Leads to opt in and out of subscription lists, but could potentially allow this functionality: Tailor communications to the topics customers want to receive | Microsoft Learn

Hope that helps. For now, if you want to capture Leads and email them, use Real-time Marketing, but know that if someone wants to opt out, they would only be able to opt out of EVERYTHING and not specific Subscription Lists.
