Business Central "Last Modified Date Time" vs "Modified At"

Hi Experts

I am trying to understand the difference between the "Last Modified Date Time" vs "Modified At" fields in Business Central.

I want to use one of these fields as a "Timestamp", and I have seen that there are some transitions where those two fields are different

Any suggestions?

Are you talking about "System Modified At" or "Modified At" ?

SystemModifiedAt is the new audit field that released recently. You should be able to use that for your purpose.

I am guessing "Modified At" is a field that has been customized for your environment. This field will get update depending on the logic written for that field. That's why there could be difference timing between the fields.

As per Microsoft docs both fields are working same, both fields are showing the date and time when record is modified.

You can see in below Screen Shot that Last Modified Date Time and Modified At showing the same value.

Now these are the system new fields which Microsoft included into all the tables. for more information regarding these fields you can go through below URL.

For them to be out of sync is strange. The first field exists on the table and has a procedure run to populate it. The second one is a system controlled field if I have pinpointed the correct field. Another process could influence that one but with it being system based tracing will be harder. Try importing the picture image again to see it you can reset it back to the same value?

    Hi Josh,

Yes, in the company Information table the "Last Modified Date time" is 5/3/2020 4:24 AM, while the "Modified at" is 5/3/2020 4:27 AM. Even though the difference is just 3 minutes, I would like to understand what could be causing this difference, and if this difference could be greater for other scenarios.

Do you have a specific example? In general I would say the former is for end user focussed modifications and the latter is for system based one’s. For instance a user can modify the “On Hold” of a customer ledger entry. The system can modify the currency value of a customer ledger entry through a defined routine.
