How to allow potential registrants to create their user for the Event website

Posted on by 177

Hi,

I know there is the setting "allow anonymous registration" on the Event that lets you control whether to force people to sign-in on the event site or not but I can't find any documentation on how to actually create a user for someone. Am I missing something or is it that the person attempting to login will be able to create their own login somehow?

Thanks

    Hi pdr469,

You can create some invitation records and associate them with contacts, then add automatically generated Invitation Code to marketing email and send the email to contacts.

After contact receiving email, he or she can copy the code and paste it to Invitation code field of Redeem Invitation tab:

The contact will be navigated to Register tab, and email field will be filled.

Other than that, for contacts, there is no difference between registering with an invitation code and registering directly.

(For purposes of registering with invitation code, you can refer to following article:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/portals/configure/invite-contacts

In short, registering with invitation code is used to trigger some processes in Dynamics.)

Indeed, everyone is able to register as Dynamics contact with or without invitation code.

If you want to only allow contacts who have invitation code to register as portal user, then you could refer to solution in this thread:

OK I think I see now. I tested this and discovered the "Register" tab after you hit "Sign-In". That allows someone to submit their email address to get access to the portal if they're a brand-new user. But if I'm an admin of that portal and I'm about to send out a mass Event registration email invite then it looks like I would have to invite them to the portal first prior to sending out my Event registration email.

Yes, how does a contact create a user? Do they just hit “sign-in” and it gives them the option or does an admin need to do it for them?

    Hi pdr469,

Could you share me more details about what "how to actually create a user for someone" means?

As per my understanding, when "allow anonymous registration" is enabled, customers need to register as portal users to submit event registration form,

otherwise they will be asked to sign in on registration page.

    pastedimage1599214185853v1.png

It can be said that a portal user is an existing contact record, but some fields of this contact will be populated with data to indicate that the contact has registered and been authenticated as portal user.

There are some fields(their name prefix is adx_, you can check them in Contact entity definition.) to save authentication information, including username and password.

You can check whether a contact has registered as portal user in Portal Management app > Contacts > Portal contact form.

    In a word,

when "allow anonymous registration" is enabled, anyone can add event registration and he or she doesn't have to be a contact.(or an existing record, even if a new contact record will be created after registration.)

when the option is disabled, customers need to use their credential(username for portal,e.g: "clofly" instead of fullname "clofly mao", and password) which are saved in some fields of their corresponding contact record to sign in portal to add registration.

    Clofly
