Does anyone have any suggestions how or if we can get obtain some additional user licenses for our old version 5.0 great plains ?    We have been running great plains since 1994.   We stopped updating the software versions in 1998.     It has been more then satisfactory for our needs since then.     We have 22 concurrent login user licenses and would like to add a few more user licenses.     The last time we spoke to Microsoft directly about this they wanted nearly 400,000$  to update the existing version we were using to the most current version at the time and then we could purchase some additional licenses.    We are running on the btrieve database version 6.15 or 6.15.445 with I believe 30 btrieve licenses.

Thank You

    Hi Brian

This is a very loaded question from both a technical and licensing perspective.

I doubt Microsoft can even generate v5.0 keys for more users.

So you would need to upgrade to a supported version. That would be about 7 upgrade jumps and a database conversion. Or a re-implemtation.

But you would also need to get current with your enhancement plan. Which might be cheaper to buy again.

The big issue is that Microsoft has announced that they will stop selling GP to new users. If you have not been paying enhancement, you are classified as a new user.

There is lots to consider here.

You will want to get current on your Enhancement plan before April 2025.

To be honest the work to upgrade is probably much less than a re-implemtation.

And if you are going to re implement you should consider looking at other products.

Hi Brian, I agree with what David said.

The cost to get current on your enhancement plan and then purchase additional licenses is going to be significant.  I doubt MS would sell licenses for that version. They will probably want you to get current on your enhancement or re-purchase licensing altogether. You'd need to look at servers, operating systems and SQL, too. $400k seems a little crazy to me - but I don't know a whole lot about your business nor do I know what that $400k included.
