How to import Fixed Assets

I have never used the import fixed asset tool. How do you go about importing fixed assets? How do you know which fields are required for General, Book, Account, Insurance, Lease and User Data? Looking at the instructions for General do not make any sense as there are more than two required fields on that screen.

What there a note about how to end the txt file? The macro gets to the end and then I get a message about a window not being open.

They are not licensed for Integration Manager so that eliminates that option. A good thought however.

    Hi Richard,

You could also just install Integration Manager and have a look at the sample FA imports that are in IM .

They were designed to work with the eConnect connector though, but you should still be able to check the format of the CSV files..

So I really should only need to import to these two windows which means pressing F1 and following the layouts?

To be fair, most people just import the general and book windows :) As a side note, and it's easy to overlook... If you are going to import your books as well, you will want to ensure that you unmark the auto add book option in the FA company setup window before running the general import.

OK, so I need to make the templates for each Window based on the information in the field mapping section. This will be a nice break from all the other stuff I am doing.

    Hello Richard,

The easiest way to create the template is to just include all columns based off the import spec and ensure you populate the ones that are needed (but include all columns regardless if you will use them.)

If you open the import\export window and then click help>about this window you should see an entry for "field mapping for importing asset information".

For each window that you will be importing have all the columns it lists included as your template for that window type. This also shows field values where needed (Asset Type as an example). What I like to do is highlight the required columns yellow and columns that need field values set to orange (as a reminder to check field values for what it should be set to).

Cheryl, I watched a couple of the videos. What I was missing were the file layouts. This is not going to be an easy task.

    Hello Richard,

The FA import/export utility is covered in Chapter 7 of the Fixed Asset manual.  Here is the link to the manual and scroll down to 'Chapter 7' specifically.  (Copy the link and paste it into your browser.)

    docs.microsoft.com/.../fixed-assets

I also see some other links from Microsoft Partners that may be useful to you as well, including:

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you,
