Wrong VAT calculation in decimals

Posted on by 656

Hello,

i have encountered a real problem concediring the VAT tax calculation in the decimal numbers and as follows an example:

items with prices :

5562.83
8007.21
678.502

subtotal is correctly calculated:

14248.542

VAT 14%

should be :

1994.796

but the GP calculates 1994.798 which is wrong

i attached below the tax setup used by the transaction

FYI this is happening more often in the transactions, i don't know if this was happening before as we didn't look at the 3rd decimal till we integrated with the government tax authority which didn't accept the values.

Thanks and Regards,

RE: Wrong VAT calculation in decimals

    Hello Cheryl,

this option just cancels the last decimal and doesn't round up to the next decimal if its over 4.

unfortunately this option doesn't serve the client need.

    Thanks.

    Hello Almed,

It sounds like you want the option for 'To the nearest currency decimal digit', not 'UP to the next currency decimal digit'.   If you have a Test company, change this and key the same transaction and verify that is working how you want.

RE: Wrong VAT calculation in decimals

    Hello RodRodriguez,

From my information the rounding up happens if the number is greater than 4

so for example if the number is 1.974 it will round up to 1.97

but if it is 5 and above like 1.976 it should round up to 1.98

try putting it on an excel sheet an do the rounding it will not round up as you calculated.

and if the Dynamics GP is rounding in the way mentioned then its unfortunately an issue.

    Thanks and Regards,

RE: Wrong VAT calculation in decimals

    Howdy Ahmed,

    The calculation is NOT incorrect.

Looking at the details on the Tax, this is the important setting:

    pastedimage1654533914026v1.png

With that in mind, this is what is happening in the calculation:

    5562.83 * .14 = 778.7962
    Rounds to 778.797

    8007.21 * .14 = 1121.0094
    Rounds to 1121.010

    678.502 * .14 = 94.99028
    Rounds to 94.991

    Sum of:   778.797 + 1121.010 +94.991 = 1994.798

So, for the "Round" setting you have, the calculation is correct.
