portal Invitations

A couple questions regarding portal invitations:

  1. Does a contact have to exist first?  When I sent a test invitation email and used the Invitation Code, I would get an Invalid Invitation Code error.
  2. Does the Group Invite work at all?  I haven't managed to get it to work, even with the list of Invited Contacts set.
  3. Can contacts create invitations?  I'm so far assuming this is possible as long as I allow existing users to have access to a create form for the invite entity.

Reason I'm asking is that I'm in the process of finding the best way for manager Contacts to be in charge of who should have access to our portal from their company.

    Hi Zabby,

here is the answers of your queries :

    1. Does a contact have to exist first? When I sent a test invitation email and used the Invitation Code, I would get an Invalid Invitation Code error.
Yes, Adxstudio provided provision of Portal invitation so that the existing CRM contacts can associate/link as a portal user. New portal users can register themselves from Portal directly.

    2. Does the Group Invite work at all? I haven't managed to get it to work, even with the list of Invited Contacts set.

Yes, for a Group invitation, all contacts associated in the "Invited Contacts" should receive an invitation email when the "Send Invitation" workflow is run.

    3. Can contacts create invitations? I'm so far assuming this is possible as long as I allow existing users to have access to a create form for the invite entity.

No, Create Invitation functionality can only be handled from CRM users. But if you want to let one contact to invite another Contact then, you can refer my below post:

    RE: portal Invitations

What is your use case? Contacts can create their own access without an invitation using the registration form. The point of an invitation is to associate a portal login with an existing contact record. The invitation allows the user to set their username and password and associate it to the contact record in dynamics. If you don't have a contact record, the registration process does just that, it creates a contact record.

Thank you @kphenix  for the response.

We selected multiple existing contacts when we create a invitation record and click on send invitation button  but it sends invitation to first contact and failed on second. you can see the error message as above.

In the Send Invitation Workflow, for the second step "Create an email to act as an email template" - navigate to View Properties, and in the create email REMOVE the dynamic values for From and To, leave them blank. Save and Activate. This resolves the issue wherein the Group Invite fails to send to all recipients and instead returns a duplicate error.
