FIFO Picking Logic

Hi, I have a question on picking logic. In my scenario I have FIFO applied and a sku in 2 bins. 1 bin (the oldest receipt) has 10 units, and 1 bin (the newest) a full pallet of 100.

I have a sales order for 100.

Question - Can I direct the picker to take the full pallet as opposed to the first 10 and breaking the pallet for the next 90?

Hi Kearnsie,

Do you have different UOMs? I mean, has your full pallet a unit conversion so 100 units = 1 pallet?

If that is true, then I think you could try using the "Restrict by unit" option on Location Directives configuration. This combined with "Round up to full LP" strategy might work.

I have used that and it worked, however I didn't have a FIFO logic.

It's the only idea I got right now.

I am not clear whether you are using AMS or WMS (tags don't show on the answer screen and I have poor short term memory).

I assume we re talking about FEFO.

Hi Kearnsie,

There's a couple of answers there about the Warehouse management module in 2012 R3 (or later). If, like your tag suggests, you're using AX 2009, you can only get this functionality if you are using WMS II. (If you're using WMS II, you'll be using 'Shipments' in the Inventory module in your sales picking process).

If you are using WMS II, you can configure AX to create Pallet Transports for full pallet picks. It's been a while.... I'm another that struggles with remembering things... there's some clues here:

about setting the Pallet quantities on the Item. Then when you process the Shipments, I think you can ask it to create Pallet transports at some point. Sorry; so vague. All my environments have WMSII switched off these days.
