Resource Setup - Require start/stop time "No"

Dear all,

We are making use of the Hour Journals-functionality within the Project Management and Accounting-module of D365F&O.
Our business is divided into 2 types of employees;

  • Indoor Employees (back-office)
    Do not require start/end time (only hours as a quantity per day)
  • Outdoor Employees (field)
    Require start/end time

I'm trying to establish the above by activating/deactivating the parameter Require Start/Stop Time on the individual Resource(s), but in don't see any impact when making an Hour Journal; the start/end-times are still mandatory despite de-activating the parameter on the selected Resource/Employee;

I've noticed that activating/deactivating the parameter Show Start/End Times on the Journal Names actually works, but that's not a feasible solution for us as all users are using the same Journal Name.

Thus my question remains; how can I define on a Resource/Employee-level the requirement (either Yes or No) of entering Start/End Times?
Maybe I missed some setup, and someone can guide me in the right direction! :)

Thanks in advance,

I have the same question (0)

    Hi Patrick,

    By default the start and end time are filled with '12:00 AM' or '0:00'. I do assume the values have been deleted? As it is a time field, it needs the value. The check on the worker is to ensure they fill the times. When it is not required on the worker, this worker can skip the fields.

    You can create different views of the form where you hide these columns and save it using 'Saved views'. You can then distribute the view without the time fields to the users which don't have the start and end time requirement. Keep the parameter Show Start/End Times active.

    Hi André,

    First of all: thanks for your reply, I really appreciate it.
    Unfortunately, I'm still stuck.

    Indeed; the Start/End Time boxes were originally filled with a value; 00:00. I've now put it back like that again.
    But unfortunately, system is not allowing me to enter a value directly in the Hours-field: the field is 'greyed-out'/not-editable;

    Same applies when putting both parameters to "Yes".

    Do you have any other idea/clue?
    Appreciate your thoughts/ideas!

    Hi Patrick,

    Did you initially have the setting for requiring the start and end time enabled on this resource? Can you tell what exact version of Dynamics 365 you are using? Do you have any ISV, partner add-on or customization in this environment which can be related?

    Hi André,

    • Initially I had the Start/End-time parameter enabled on this Resource.
      I've now also tried it with some Resources from scratch, directly with the parameter disabled, but still with the same result.
    • We are working on Product Version 10.0.16 - Update10
    • We do have an ISV-solution (DynaRent - I guess you know something about that one :)) - but I'm almost certain that no changes were made to these fields/concepts.

    In fact, I've also tested it now on a 100% standard environment (without any developments/ISV-solutions), which gave me the same outcome;

    Do you have any other idea/suggestions?
    Appreciate the time you've put in so far already!

    Kind regards,

    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,

    Apologies for a late reply. There are two places where you can enable the start and stop times on the hour journals:

    - Project parameters

    - Journal name

    If you enable the setting on the project parameters, but disable it on the journal name, you are able to edit the hours directly. If both are enabled, then indeed the hours field is locked for editing.

    To solve your requirement for two types of users, you can disable the start/stop times on the journals and manage the differences with two different security roles (field level security) and/or saved views.

    PS: Actually, we have the DynaRent product, but I'm not directly working with this ISV solution myself. Your issue is indeed related to the standard of Dynamics 365 and not DynaRent. My focus is on the horizontal solutions within To-Increase. In the coming period, I will work with the DynaRent team for certain areas where the horizontal solutions might be supportive to DynaRent.

    Dear André,

    Thanks for coming back to me.

    We will go indeed for your suggested approach, by making use of: Security Roles + Form Personalizations.

    Once again; thanks for taking the time to guide me!

    Kind regards,

    Patrick
