what's AX standard function for fixed asset budget depreciation when there's also budget acquisition?

Hi All,

When we use the fixed asset budget journal, first to budget acquisition fixed assets monthly, second to run the budget depreciation monthly, how will the logic of budget deprecation amount be produced? Will AX only calculate it based on depreciation method and current net book value without budget acquisition amount or not? Here’s the example screenshot for your reference, seems from this screenshot, the deprecation amount is not including the budget acquisition amount, is it correct? Thanks!

    Hi,

There are several ways how you can create a FA budget. Here is one:

Step 1: Create a budget at the value model level and transfer it to the ledger budget module and update the ledger budget values transferred

Step 2: Open a fixed asset budget journal and run a depreciation proposal. Once it is run, transfer it to the FA and ledger budget

(Note: If your FA has not been acquired yet, you might get a message saying that a negative NBV will result. This can be circumvented by activating the allow negative NBV at the value model level)

    Result:

    FA budget

    Ledger budget

    Hi Ludwig,

    Thanks for your replying.

How about when I run fixed asset acquisition budget each month without transfer to update the budget balance, then I run the fixed asset budget depreciation in the same period, will the budget depreciation include the budget acquisition or not?

For my testing, seems the scenario described above will not include the budget acquisition value, is it standard behavior?

At the other hand, I also tested that I create fixed asset budget acquisition first, then transfer, then update budget balance, then use the depreciation proposal at or after the budget acquisition, it seems also not include the budget acquisition value, is it standard behavior?

Can we conclude that budget depreciation will not be affected by the budget acquisition?

    Thanks.

    Hi AXJR,

Your last statement is right because what counts is what has been entered in the acquisition price field in your value model. Here an example where I just setup a fixed asset and did not generate any acquisition transaction. I just entered an acquisition Price of $600000

Then I run the depreciation budget proposal and got my depreciation numbers.

    Hi Ludwig,

I test more for the functionality, when the fixed asset is not acquired, then just create forecast entry for this fixed asset of acquisition transaction type, the amount will be included to calculate the budget depreciation.

If we input the acquisition price in the general tab which as you suggested, then no matter how much amount in forecast acquisition entry, only the acquisition price in the general tab will be used to calculate the budget depreciation. If this is the standard functionality, then all the acquired fixed asset, we can think there's no any budget functionality anymore? Because the budget acquisition amount will not be included to calculate the budget depreciation amount. Is it correct?

If then seems the budget functionality is not useful anymore for acquired fixed asset.
