Solution Layers - "Active" Layer

Hi,

I can't find much information as to what the "Active" layer is within the Solution Layers functionality.

I can see components with an Active layer at the top and others without it. Does the Active layer only appear if an unmanaged customization has been made to a managed component? If so, what would be considered  an unmanaged customization in this context.

What do you do in that case? If the sitemap doesn't get changed via a managed solution, do you delete the Active Customizations layer from the Managed Solution?

Depends on the type of customization. Managed solutions can overwrite unmanaged customizations - the only challenges you'd see are with sitemap and forms - there you might have situations where the managed doesn't overwrite

Thank you Radu for your answer, so if one time you edit one of those components you will never be able to overwrite them with a managed solution ?

    It's quite crazy

    Hello,

You are right - the active layer is the unmanaged solution layer.

Components can appear on the unmanaged layer if they have been edited in the default solution (Settings - Customizations - Customize the System actually opens the default solution)

If you edit there any managed components (then a new layer unmanaged or Active will be added on top ) containing your unmanaged customizations or if you create a new entity then this will be added to the Active Layer (Unamanged) by default.

    Regards,

    Radu
