LOT No. Information Card - Block

Hello
Can someone please advise the functionality of LOT No. Blocking.

If I "block" a LOT I understand that this specifies that the related record is blocked from being posted in transactions, for example a customer that is declared insolvent or an item that is placed in quarantine.  However, does this mean the inventory on the "blocked" LOT is still considered available for Planning Worksheet?

Example:
If I have a total of 100 inventory
  • LOT A - 50 (unblocked)
  • LOT B - 50 (blocked)
Demand of 100

Will the Planning Worksheet say I need to make 50 or consider that I have the full amount of inventory (100) to meet the demand (100)?

Thanks,
Flick

The planning engine does not take into account the blocked field on the lot no. information card. In your case its going to consider that you have the full amount of inventory of 100 to meet the demand of 100.

per the hint, BC won't allow the block lot to be posted.

Hi, I'm sorry I haven't investigated it in detail, but customization may be possible. You can discuss the specific requirements with your partners.

    Thanks.

Based on Valentin's response, if you don't want the Planning to consider the Blocked Lot, I suggest you do an Item Reclass and move it to a Quarantine Location.  This way it removes it from the quantity available in your useable Location.

    Hi,

Blocking a lot only prevents posting transactions against that lot (like sales, consumption, transfers). The blocked quantity is still counted as available inventory in planning and will not be excluded by the Planning Worksheet. In your example, the system will see 100 available and not suggest additional supply, even though 50 are blocked.

    Thanks

    Hi Flick,

The behavior of blocked Lot No. inventory in planning calculations can be counterintuitive, especially when managing quarantined or restricted stock.

In BC, the Planning Worksheet does not respect the Blocked field on the Lot No. Information Card. This means:

    • Even if a Lot is marked as blocked, its quantity is still considered available for planning purposes.
    • In your example, with 100 total inventory (50 unblocked, 50 blocked), the Planning Worksheet will assume all 100 units are available to meet demand.
    • As a result, it will not suggest a replenishment of 50 units, it will consider the demand fully covered.

If you want to exclude blocked Lots from planning calculations, the clean workaround is to move the blocked inventory to a separate Location, such as a Quarantine or Hold location. This removes it from the available supply in your active planning location and ensures the Planning Worksheet suggests replenishment correctly.

    Hi Felicity,

I think this query is too old (Aug 2024), may be already resolved by given answers.

@Rishabh Kanaskar  @Jeffrey Bulanadi, the issue already has a verified answer and is being marked as solved. I am not sure why we are going back and responding to the old questions.

    Hi

Blocking a Lot No. stops it from being transacted but does not exclude it from planning or availability.

To keep it out of MRP calculations, you must move it to a separate location or apply a planning filter.
