Stock Intergity

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi. New to this so please be kind!

I have a big issue with my stock integrity - we can count a line one day and it will be wrong the next. We have big issues with capacity of our server - this is resulting in the system not reporting any sales or stock movements for what can be three days and maybe three or four times a week. I am told it will catch up......what should I check? Is there ten tips I should focus on to look why A plus B never equals C?!

I do not see any related link with server been full and your stocks levels are not updated on NAV at timely manner.

If the server is full and will not have space for DB to grow then system will throw an error. Other than that it is very high unlikely to cause an issue that can corrupt a database.

Hi. Thanks for the responses I am currently working my way through some of the proposed ways in which to find the root cause. In essence what I am faced with is a simple question. If a server is full and keeps halting any updates and needs intervention to create space will this corrupt a database. I am told it will eventually catch up any updates to stock figures but I am not convinced. I will keep you updated.

Can you provide your facts in point forms so we can understand better. Plus can you tell me what you mean by "catch up". How long does the system take to update once you post the sales order?

I do not think this is a issue with the database and it should be a problem with coding or the process that your company following.

sounds like the database is corrupted.

before you make any checks, make a full backup of the database.

then check following as first step:

    - check the harddrive were the database is stored

    - check the partition where the database is stored. is there enough space left to grow ?

    - db settings: is the db log full? if so, shrink it.

    - do you have the same problems with other databases? if you have only that one database add the cronus database, add a new nav service, do some tests, check if you also have problems.

after theses first checks give as feedback for next steps.

    RE: Stock Intergity

Just to put some more detail into this. We are a retailer so a simple stock in stock out. However we have a few issues with the stock at receipt having a few coding issues which delays it sometimes but is quick to resolve in most cases. We seem fairly slick. It just seems though as fast as we receive, count or sell our systems corrupt. We delay posting on line sales - which does not help. The server issue seems to be an obvious issue where we have no updates or reporting for days and days. My IT say this is fine as it catches up - but call me old fashioned if the system is not updating for a few days and with such complexity as BOM's, sales, receipting, disposals etc etc and every day we count three next week we have seven....etc. I could do with any suggestions or hints and tips to go and analyse to prove what it is that's affecting us. Help?
