Data Management Framework and BYOD - Issues with manual setup and All Company Export

We have reviewed a variety of methods to extract data from D365 FO for data warehousing. It appears there may be a lot recurring manual set up when working with multiple environments and refreshes. We have the following questions:

We require data for 70+ companies to be exported to a Azure SQL DB on a recurring basis, how can we achieve this effectively using BYOD with minimal manual intervention and configuration?

  • 'All Company Export' Flighted feature – Only works for one off exports using Data Management. Manual set up 'per company' is required for recurring schedule.
  • Data Task Automation – Doesn’t work for the 'All Company Export' feature or set up for Recurring Schedules. The recurring schedule is there but doesn't start at all.
  • Data Management Export packages deployed from LCS – Only seems to work for import projects. Recurring schedule data not available for configuration so it has to be manual process.
  • It will be a large manual task with this many companies - difficult to manage and maintain. Looking to automate as much as possible.

How can we manage configuration of BYOD data exports across multiple environments DEV/TEST/UAT/PROD?

  • Recurring schedules setup doesn’t seem to be transferred between environments.
  • Only solution looks to be a manual process for the recurring schedules. This will be difficult to manage and maintain through the UI.
  • Can we parameterise the Azure DB connection details somehow?

Has anyone else experienced this? How did you solve these issues?

You setup connection to Azure DB only in one place: Data management -> Configure entity export to database. So changing it once will change it for all the projects.

We usually do this config in our Golden DB and then copy it across DEV/TEST/UAT/PROD. But if you do not have this option I would recommend you to check if there is an entity to export\import data management projects. If there is none you can develop one and leverage it to copy projects between companies or environments.

Ok so Golden Config can be used to store the data project information?

How would you get around the issue of setting up recurring incremental loads for 70+ companies? This information doesn't seem to be able to be stored in config or entities. We'd like to avoid manual set up using the UI.

Have you looked at data management option? If you have an entity you can build package with setup required and apply it to different companies and environments.
