Can Print Management send a document to two different destinations?

ReportReport
Posted on by 200
In D365 F&O we have Print Management setup to email our invoices when they get printed. I want to add a step to have them save a copy to Azure storage as well.

I added the step to do that, but the files aren't being saved and I'm not seeing any error messages.

Note: I ested the Azure storage step independently and it works, but I can't seem to make it happen after the email step.

The first one works well, but the second step doesn't work at all.

How can I set things up to accomplish this?

I have the same question (0)

    Hi,

yes it is possible depending how you print your document.

The way you set up your print management (from the screenshot), is to set up conditions and based on that you print different reports or destinations.
F.e., you can set up that by default it is printed with a certain report, however, when a condition is met, like a certain customer group, invoice amount or whatever, then another report should be taken as a template.

Back to your question. If you are printing via electronic reporting, you can configure here multiple destinations, like File, Screen and also sharepoint or whatever.
In the print management setup  you then define the Destination name and report format (from ER).

In case you are using a 3rd party solution, like we do, then it depends on the 3rd party software if it can print it on screen and also archive it somewhere else.

    Kind regards, Adis

    HI,

As mentioned if you use ER format it can be configured but with standard print management i doubt

Thank you both. We use Docentric, so I'll inquire with them.

I wasn't sure which system actually managed the rules for printing. You've helped me learn something new here. Thanks.

Thank you for your responses. We learned by asking Docentric that we have to create a "copy" of the default if we want more than one destination. If we have conditions below the default, the logic stops when the first condition is met. To get the second destination, we need to have a COPY of the default with the condition and destination required. Here is the actual response from Docentric:

If you want to send an email and save the document to Azure at the same time, you should use the Original and Copy settings. When using Conditional settings, the process stops as soon as one condition is met, and any subsequent conditions are not evaluated.

You can find more information in our blog article: Print Management in Simple Words - Docentric AX:

Order of execution of conditional settings
Conditional settings are evaluated in the same order in which they appear in Print management. When a condition in the setting is met, that Print management setting is used and the remaining conditional Print management settings are no longer processed.

    Original and Copy settings
In addition to a mandatory Original <Default> setting, you can add one or more Copy settings. Very basic use-case example, as described in Microsoft documentation, is to print a Sales order packing slip three times, each printout with a different footer text. For that, you would set up an Original and two Copy settings. But companies also use the Original + Copy configuration to print the same report to different Print destinations, for example to Email and File.
