Embedded Power BI Deployment Failed

Posted on by 5

Greeting All and thanks in advance for any help you may have to offer.

We recently did a refresh of the data in our UAT environment. Once this was finished I did the pbi configuration but when I attempt to deploy a pbi report I get the deployment failed for the file... message.

Here is some additional information that may help you help me.

1. I have also done the step successfully on the system parameters> help page.

2. These are not custom reports, they are all out of the pbi content pack that comes out of the shared asset library in LCS.

3. We had successfully setup these reports just before we did the data refresh.

RE: D365 Finance Embedded Power BI Deployment Failed

    Hi,

Deployment failed is mostly about the user id.

    Here are the prerequisites :

    • At least one AAD account in your tenant must be registered with PowerBI.com.

    • After you’ve created your AAD account, sign in to https://app.powerbi.com.

    • At least one user must sign in to PowerBI.com before the configuration can be completed.

    • You must have at least one dashboard and one report in your Power BI account. Although the dashboard and report aren’t required for this configuration step, you might not be able to validate the configuration if you don’t have any content in your PowerBI.com account.

    • You must have AAD administrator privileges.

    • You must be assigned to the System Administrator role in Dynamics 365 for Operations.

    • You must be using the same tenant for both your deployment and the user logon. For example, if the environment was deployed under the contosoax7.onmicrosoft.com tenant, the user logon for both Dynamics 365 for Operations and Power BI should be in the format myname@contosoax7.onmicrosoft.com.

If you are still facing issues, please raise a Microsoft support case through https://lcs.dynamics.com to get further help and guidance.

Over there you can click inside your project, then using the menu bar on top (usually on the right of "Lifecycle Services" word), find "Support"

    Thanks,

Thanks Lucas for the link to support above. Please disregard my silly question below as I had not seen the link originally.

    Have a great day.

RE: D365 Finance Embedded Power BI Deployment Failed

Yes I have a power bi pro license.

What I meant in step 3 was this. If you go to system administration > setup you'll see "configure power bi reports" where you have to create an app at dev.powerbi.com/apps then enter the key and secret in, then, you connect to your lcs instance.

Yes these are the standard reports from the "shared asset library".

RE: D365 Finance Embedded Power BI Deployment Failed

Update: We have had no luck resolving this issue. In fact I've attempted to figure out a work around but have failed. If I pull these reports out of asset library, the connection used "directconnect". If I attempt to change the connection to an odata connection for example I no longer have access to the axdw db so the reports don't work. If I elect to rebuild each report using odata then all the work is wasted once this if fixed and we go back to embedded reports.

Sorry to have babbled, I'm just throwing more thoughts out there for anyone else that comes along and finds this. I "refound" this now in my resumed search to find the answer.

BTW, I have never opened a support ticket with Microsoft, can anyone direct me to where I should open a support ticket on this issue?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

RE: D365 Finance Embedded Power BI Deployment Failed

    Hi TheShawn,

Does the user account which you are using for Deployment is a Power BI Pro License ? and is it under the same tenant ?

And can you help to elaborate on your point 3, what did you mean by "We had successfully setup these reports just before we did the data refresh" ? since as you mentioned as well, this is the standard Power BI report from shared asset library.

    Thanks,

    Hi Shawn,

Any luck in resolving this issue?

If you're still having troubles, I'd recommend opening a support case so our tech team can have a look:

BTW, your first two links don't apply  (different issues) and the third has no images.

I appreciate your help. I outlined my specific issue since I have searched and searched and found nothing that matches what my issue is.

I didn't create these reports. These are the reports that come in the power bi content pack for Finance.

I uninstalled the latest PowerBI desktop and installed the older(August) version and created the same report in the older version to fix this issue."
