Partitioning at SQL Server layer

Posted on by 8,201

 Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has activated partitioning in SQL Server for Dynamics AX DB (/tables), I am thinking especially on large tables (GJAE / InventTrans / etc).

Our implementation is reaching it's billion (10^9) record shortly in GJAE (shortly followed by other tables), and we are starting to see this volume's strain on some of the functionalities; one example is the financial year closing, in relation to the volume of data in GJAE, as well as another being updating the dimension focus data.

I am curious how other implementations are handling this.

 Thanks.

    Hello Kevin,

What would you suggest for Customers who have almost reached 2TB database size and NTFS does not support files >2TB ? Use secondary file groups?

    Thanks,

    Tomas

    Hello Lulian,

    Please refer this thread: community.dynamics.com/.../129951

We do not recommend that you partition tables. The most effective way to alleviate IO pressure is to increase the number of drives used by the AX database, use the correct RAID level, and follow documented Best Practices. Please see the topic Configure SQL Server and storage settings for AX 2012 and the Database Configuration Whitepaper for AX 2009.
