Which version of JET should i use and why

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

As a Navision user I am able to access and use JET express as a means of producing analysis reports on the data we hold.  I am looking for somneone to advise if/why I would/should consider using the full version of JET?  Again would like to hear from others with organisations using fairly big data sets and multiple companies within the NAVISION matrix...

You can find Power BI here: https://powerbi.microsoft.com . On-premis version is free of charge, however it does not contain predefined set of templates that are available in cloud version.

NAV 2016 has a sample set of OData web services (type "Web service" in the NAV search field) that can be already published for Power BI. You can feed those links e.g. to on-premis Power BI to get the understanding of that software.

Check PowerBI desktop version, which is free version.

Also check PowerBI on cloud version (per month per user) cost which is also great solution. You already have Microsoft Dynamics NaV content pack available with Power BI online solution. This can certainly meet your requirement to an extent.

Larger organisations, having Big data dets, are using various BI soultions like Powe BI, Tableu, Qlik, Cognos, BI4Dynamics, Solver BI etc.

If you are having typical BI requirements on Web, on Phone, and Various Dashboards, KPI related requirement etc. Or periodic scheduled reporting, and sharing reporting between various people, or reporting on unstructured data (external data feed)

then you can go with such expensive BI solution.

Otherwise you can easily manage the related reporting in excel via various addins like Jet express.

You may use data warehousing to handle big data set volume and generate the report from offline database for better performance.

You may use Always On technology, available in Sql, for data warehousing.

    Hope this helps.

Power BI is a great tool. In some configuration, it can be a free alternative.

    Hi,

Can you advise of a cheap alternative to Jet Reports for MS NAV besides BI4?

Jet Express is basic and free tool for analyzing NAV data through Excel. You use online NAV tables and you have easy possibility for report creation.

Jet Essentials is not free tool. It provides advanced tool in Excel analytic (e.g. Schedule reports), but you still use online NAV tables.

This is a good idea for easier reports with not so big tables. If you have big tables or if you want complex reports, you need OLAP cubes. If you want this level, you need to use Jet Enterprise.

I suggest to see other BI tools, as well. I prefer BI4Dynamics. This is full OLAP tool with a lot of predefined reports and price is not so big. YOu can download trial version and try it by yourself: http://www.bi4dynamics.com/

Of course, you can find another BI tool for NAV.
