Hi,

I've posted a thread here : https://forums.asp.net/t/2161419.aspx

And been advised to check Dynamics365.

This is the thread I've posted there:

Hello ,

I am currently working as an financial accountant and I would like to do a career shift to be a software developer, and exactly to develop business software to make the best use of my experience and my understanding to develop different software that fit different purposes.
I am new to the world of programming and I would like to get certified and take the right path.
Honestly I do not know what should I do and what should I study and in which order.
I just set my goal to develop different financial application as I know accounting and finance with some others like stock businesses very well due to my +18 years of
practical experience and I know what are the requirements and needs that even famous ERP do not fit and require a lot of customization.
I've chosen Microsoft as I am a windows user and used Microsoft Office since 1997.
I did my home work and searched for what to go through and I've found different tools like:

  • .net
  • asp.net
  • c#
  • visual basic
    ...etc

But honestly still do not understand what are the main differences between these tools.
And few other things that makes me a bit confused.
If you may suggest what to do to understand the big picture that would be awesome.

Sorry if my question is too generic or too broad.

One last thing I've in mind, does there is any open source financial/business application by Microsoft that I can learn and use?

Thanks

So is it advisable to learn programming and then work as a customization support for Dynamics 365?

Or  am getting this completely wrong?

Thanks a lot :)

I have the same question (0)

    Hi MGadAllah,

Considering that you have a wealth of financial experience, I suggest you study Dynamics 365 Finance.
About you want to switch to software development,.

D365F&O Web development, using X++ language, it has many similarities with C# and other languages, so you need to learn a lot. As for the specific differences between them, Google can get a lot.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/fin-ops-core/fin-ops/
You can subscribe to the free trial first,.

But if you need to get a development machine environment, Partner/Customer trial is the only way to get access to a development VM.

While additional skill always help, first master D365 Finance (functional) and then could use that knowledge to quickly rampup on development using financial scenarios

As you have very good experience in Finance  you must be clear about the core concepts. You just have to play with Finance and operations ERP and get to know  how it works , navigation etc . For that lot of resources are  available online . Community page has resources tab , where you will get lot of links to learn about Finance ERP.

Coding for D365 for Finance is done in X++. Best place to start learning technical is through developer home page and x++ programming guide, link below
