Booking Status - Unscheduled

Hi,

Is it possible in Field Service to assign a Work Order to a Resource without scheduling it?

Note: Mainly I do not want to assign a time slot (Start - End time) to a Resource. Which is a mandatory field when it comes to Booking.

Thanks & Regards,
Angelus Spy

    Hi Angelus.

You can Assign the Work Order to the resource. You don't have to have the booking.

I like the idea of creating a booking upfront, with low priority and giving training to the resource to work on those bookings when they are available. It is more self-management.

Using the bookings you can have the travel time and miles, auto-generated time entry and more visibility in the Analytics and Insights reports.

Out of the box, we expect a booking represents a specific time for a specific resource to conduct work for the related work order. I would suggest not using bookings if you want to indicate that a resource is going to work on this but have no time in mind.

There are a couple of ways you could consider doing this like adding an "Assigned Resource" field to your work order to indicate that it is assigned to someone or changing the "Owner" of the work order record to the resource (assuming it is a user type resource).

If this is your standard way of working you can book the work orders to the Resource within the correct week and potentially use a flow to set them all to begin 08:00 on the sunday of that week. That way you can use the standard Booking functionality on the mobile app.

If the resource then schedules it for a specific date/time - he can just change the time of the booking. Hope this helps.
