Using web services for Rate Shop

Is it possible to use web services to run a rate shop request? I'm a web developer and I've set up many other functions for my company to use via web services. Today I noticed that when my coworkers use NAV to get a shipping quote, it's basically a royal pain in the ass. They have to assign the quote to a customer, then change the destination address, add the item, quantity, etc, then click the Rate Shop button to get rates, then cancel out of the quote and tell Nav not to save it.

In comparison, the form I set up on our website that connects to FedEx directly just needs the item number, destination zip and quantity - hit submit and you're done.

I'd like to set up something similar for them so they can get rates from NAV side by side with the form I set up on our website, and compare them in the event of a discrepancy. Anyone know of a way to do this? I see that there's a page called "Rate Shop" but I'm not sure how to go about triggering it.

    Mike,

yes you can use the web services in NAV and I am not sure how your current NAV environment is setup for Rate Shop but usually we have several Add-ons to help in shipping process and one of most common one is Lanham ISV which does have Rate Shop functionality and which uses Fedex Web services to rate shop

Yes you can call web services from NAV and you can publish NAV objects as web services.

You can also create a DotNet addin (with C#) that you can use inside NAV as a "library". This could be useful if you need to interact with particular web services that could be difficult to handle only with standard NAV code.
