Good afternoon,
Does anyone know if a call center can integrate it's telephones with AX 2012 any longer?

The feature has been depreciated. The objects might be still in the product, but will be removed in a future release. Have a look at Deprecated: TAPI integration [AX 2012].
You can go alternative ways.
We have replaced our telephony system to rely on Skype for Business, and when a call gets connected we pull up the customer account in AX based on the phone number. We can even show call status, or accept/reject the call inside AX. Of course this requires customization through Skype API, but it is doable. I am unsure if there are any real "TAPI" integrations out there.
