Hi:

I just found out that reopening a closed production order doesn't unallocate its components.

How do you get the components unallocated, then?

Hi John,

I hope your doing well.

You're correct—reopening a closed production order in Dynamics 365 Business Central doesn't automatically unallocate its components.

Reopen the Production Order:

Navigate to the Finished Production Orders page.

Select the order you wish to edit.

Choose the Reopen action.

Confirm the action when prompted.

Review Component Allocations:

Open the Prod. Order Components page for the reopened order.

Check the Qty. Picked, Qty. to Consume, and Remaining Qty. fields for each component.

Unallocate Components:

If components have been picked but not consumed, you can cancel the pick to unallocate them.

If components have been consumed, you'll need to reverse the consumption using a negative item journal or the Undo Consumption function.

Adjust the Qty. to Consume field as necessary to reflect the correct quantities.

Update Reservations:

If any components are still reserved, remove or adjust these reservations to free up the inventory.
