Hi,

I am trying to buy a fixed assets through a PO generated from within the project. However, when I try to change 'New fixed assets' to yes , it doesn't allow me.

if it is a regular PO then it works.

the cost is beyond the asset threshold.

Thanks

your business scenario (charging out fixed assets and tracking their P&L including depreciation is a fairly common one.

There are several Dynamics add-on for EAM (enterprise asset management) that deal with the accounting around it.

The one that I have seen "linked" the fixed asset module to the project module where you have 1-1 relationship between a fixed asset to a project (both representing 1 piece of equipment), and this link allows to flow depreciation (as well as other costs) into the project entity

    Hello Sam,

This allocation of the FA depreciation to a project requires a system modification. If you use a financial project dimension you could possibly achieve this with the help of MS Flow but I am not sure about that and you would have to test this out.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks for the feedback!

The business would like to allocate the fixed assets depreciation cost to a project and bill the client the  cost on a monthly basis as part of additional services.

I see that D365 is working as designed

I wanted to make I haven't miss anything.

    Thanks again

    Hello Sam,

If you work with investment type projects than you first purchase some goods/services and consume them for your project. When the project is ended you can then shift all costs to a new fixed asset.

What you try to works only for POs that do not have a project relationship.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

I think what you are trying to do is self contradictory from a business scenario perspective, and cannot be done in Dynamics.

    A) Purchase order into a project: ability to consume material and services into project cost (and possibly later re-sell them)

    B) Purchase of fixed asset: procure a fixed asset that remains in the possession of the legal entity.

A contradicts B - you cannot "consume" something (use it) and at the same time record it as your asset, so I am not surprised Dynamics does not allow you that.

Maybe explain more what is the business scenario/requirement you are trying to achieve?

Hello Sam, you need a right user role for that matter. If you have sa or system administrator > security roles. explore it.
