Lookup field value import through excel by using Import in crm 365

Hi All,

I am facing below issue while importing records from excel file which has one lookup field column.

I have 5 columns which has First Name,LastName,Mob no,Technical Activity,Email. I have one entity called Technical Activity & it has a subgrid named Technical Activity attendance.So I have uploaded one excel template & by downloading this then added data in the excel & then trying to upload excel to create record.Creating record is fine but need to update column Technical Activity in excel so that regarding should get fill & in associated view on Technical activity it should display.

How can i achieve this ?

I have tried with creating workflow on field chnge of suppose first name or last name on technical activity attendance entity then update Technical Activity field on Technical Activity Attendance.But workflow is not triggering.

Any idea ?

Hello,

What value are you passing in Technical Activity column in excel?

Are you passing Name field value?

Currently OOB import by default will try to set lookup based on Primary field but you can select other fields to map the lookup field.

You could also pass Technical Activity GUID to map the lookup field.

Thanks Bipin for your quick response.

I am using below excel :

Then its giving lookup reference couldnot be resolved.How can i take guid of record & what should be the coulmn name to write in excel & format what it should be. Because here i am not creating Technical Activity record just regarding column trying to update on Technical Activity Attendance entity.

Hi Bipin,

If am taking Guid of record & pass in column in excel then its creating record with reg coulmn fine.

But in the case suppose users doesn't know to take the record id & directly they are trying to pass the record name in that case what could be the approach to do .

In the import summary for failures image above, note that the "lookup reference could not be resolved error" is regarding a field that begins with "campaign" (aka "Campaign Activity ID" or "Campaign Activity Technical Activity Attendance") which is displayed under the "Column Header" column.

Hi,

Can you please copy the Technical Activity value from Excel and do advanced find to check if record exist with that name?

Look for Technical Activity Entity

Name equals paste value from Excel

I am suspecting something is wrong with the value, it should work with Name field mapping.

Hi Bipin,

I have checked with above in advanced find with name search its not able to give this value

below value using

- A K Construction Company -

Not getting while searching with name in advanced find not getting record after close & open then its coming.

what could be the issue as its already existing record not the new one.

Anything i can add regaring as user doesn't want to use guid so instead they need name so that those record should display in associated grid.

Hi Dean,

yes that was i was taking import all fields so thats why it gave issue.Now you can my latest comment where i have mentioned about Technical Activity column lookup couldnot resolved issue.

Any idea how can we upload excel without any issue.

Hi,

Can you please create a sample record in Technical Activity with Name as "Test" and now try to upload excel with Technical Activity column value as "Test" to see if it works.

If it works then you should check if you have any special character in your record.

Hi Bipin,

yes it has special chracter like - - I have created with name TestJh as name is hidden field.but after creation & refresh test got dissapeard only - - is avilable as it is updating from customer Name Lookup field.

But name comes from customer name lookup field to account .

Below screen name is having special charater.
