Hi
currently i am on AX 2012, my active directory is 2008/2012, looking forward to upgrade that to 2016
want to make sure AX 2012 would still work fine with that

There has been no announcement of Window Server 2016 compatibility for AX 2012 yet.
I do not believe there would be major changes to the communications protocols involving Active Directory, if you cannot wait a couple of months until official announcements on the blogs and compatibility kernel hotfixes, make sure you have a fallback scenario in case you face problems. Conduct a full user acceptance test as well for the services involving AD authentication.
thanks
here it says 2008 and above, so do you still not recommend the upgrade?

The documentation says "The domain controller must run in Windows 2008 mode or later". 2016 is a later version indeed and as I said communication protocols are likely the same for AD user/domain management. If / when you try it out, make sure you have a fallback plan and a thorough technical user testing in place to rule out issues.
